At request of the hostess: This month, it’s a “ladies’ night” just for club members and their guests.
The February meeting of the Indian Village Woman’s Garden Club is Monday, February 10, 2020. We will meet at Betty’s* lovely, historic home. At 7:00pm, we will gather to greet follow members. Refreshments, including white wine, will be served. A brief business meeting will be held at 7:30pm.
A special African American History Month Program, arranged by our hostess, starts at 8:00pm. The topic is “Detroit Institute of Arts’ Exhibit: Detroit Collects, African American Art from Private Collections”
Our hostess suggests you visit the exhibit before the meeting. If you are not able to, the exhibit is open until March 15.
Art collectors Linda Whitaker and Rhonda Welburn lead us on an exploration of the rich history of collecting of African American Art in the Detroit region by private collectors. As local collectors, Linda and Rhonda will discuss their interest in the diverse media, styles, genres, influences and subject matter that inspired them to collect art created by African Americans. The DIA exhibition featuring works by Romare Bearden, Al Loving, Charles McGee and Alison Saar.
