Our January meeting gave us a chance to forget about winter for a few hours and enjoy the company of our friends and neighbors. The meeting was at Betty’s lovely home in historic Indian Village. As our hostess, Betty provided us with a delightful array of refreshments, from vegan spring rolls to desserts. Red and sparkling wine was served.

Sheila, first vice-president, preceded at the business meeting. She gave us the great news that our Holiday Scholarship Tour earned almost $6,000, twice as much as last year. Congratulations were in order for Renata Taylor who chaired the very successful event!

Program: Valerie J. Mercer is head of the General Motors Center for African American Art at the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA). She is in charged of conducting research and developing special exhibitions, lectures and symposia on African American art. She also pursues acquisitions and plans exhibitions on the museum’s growing collection of African American art. She presented us with a preview of “30 Americans” an exhibit that will open later this year.
