Would you like to harvest tasty vegetables out of your garden all year round? This program is right up your row!
Kido Pielack, from Keep Detroit Growing, explained how to stretch the growing season by using simple techniques such as select vegetable varieties, simple tools like hoop houses and special growing techniques.
He ended the evening by demonstrating how to set up a hoop house in the front yard. It was an interesting evening that taught us new ways to think about vegetable gardening.
Some sources he recommended included: Detroit Farm and Garden, 1759 20th Street, Detroit, MI, row covers, hoop house supplies and other gardening supplies, Johnny’s Selected Seeds (www.johnnyseeds.com), seeds for cool weather greens, Website: Plants for a Future (www.pfaf.org), information about edible & useful plants.
