Gabriel Richard Park, to the east of the Belle Isle bridge, is part of Detroit Riverfront development.
The Monday, April, 9, 2018 meeting is at a lovely Historic Indian Village home. The meeting will start at 7:00pm with refreshments, including wine, and conservation. A brief business meeting will be held at 7:30. The Home and Garden Tour is June 9 and 10. Volunteers are needed! Invite you family friends to be docents at Indian Village’s annual weekend of work, music, food and fun. The Worker’s Party is reason enough to volunteer.
Our speaker is Marc Pasco of the Detroit Riverfront Conservatory. He will talk to us about the history of the development on the Detroit Riverfront and what is to come on Riverfront East. Of special interest to Indian Villagers is development of the old UniRoyal site to the west of the Belle Isle Bridge. After the UniRoyal Tire Factory closed, around 1980, the site had a high level of toxic wastes. After many years of clean up, the area is ready for new development. The areas along the river will be park space, open to us all. The large site is expected to have mixed use zoning with commercial and residential developments. We will getting new neighbors, this is exciting!
A great time was had by all!
